Watch the OCBC Garden Rhapsody

5 Apr

I am going to write about ideal activities to do on a Friday without spending a lot in this little (expensive) city called Singapore. You probably would rarely have me write about clubbing and drinking because usually, a drink here costs S$15 per glass of Vodka martini. Or any alcohol for that matter, plus GST and service charge. And I seldom drink anyway (okay, insert violent reactions here: _______________).

And oh, I don’t like clubbing on a Friday. It becomes too dang crowded that every club or hangout place in Singapore, specially the ones in town (near the offices) are packed. Well, yeah, as expected. Busy professionals would grab a drink or two with their buddies after work to welcome the glorious weekend.

Okay, let me see. I’m starting off with a wholesome, family-fun entertainment. How about a trip to Gardens by the Bay after work to catch a display of lights as the Supertrees come to life?

My husband and I spent one warm afternoon here before catching the OCBC Rhapsody at 7.45pm but for the purpose of this entry, we can stick to the light show in the evening.

This lake welcomes visitors to Gardens by the Bay.

Visiting the outdoor gardens is absolutely free. So you don’t have to spend anything, only for dinner after the show. And since Gardens by the Bay is just right across Marina Bay Sands, there are a lot of dining choices out there well below the S$50 budget. There are regional food stalls (Chinese, Malaysian, Japanese, Filipino, Thai, etc) beside the skating rink so check this out for more dining options. Some selected stalls are even open for 24hrs!

If you wish to visit the other attractions at Gardens by the Bay, it’s better to check them out on a weekend, so you have enough time exploring the place. There is an entrance fee at the conservatories, ranging from S$8-S$28. Still not bad.

Sunset. How gorgeous is that?

Hubby and I watched the short show and grabbed dinner afterwards. We were amazed by the view and loved the sunset.

Gardens by the Bay is located at 18 Marina Gardens Drive. If you’re taking the MRT, alight at Bayfront and take Exit B. Follow the underground link way to reach Gardens.

This concludes today’s post. Catch you again next week for another reasonably-priced activity in Singapore. Tomorrow’s another theme.

Enjoy your day and have a great weekend ahead!

Blogging from my side of the globe,

Marie

Every Friday, I write about activities or things to do after work without breaking the bank. The budget? S$50 (US$40) or less. Let the challenge begin!
